To enhance connectivity for streaming devices, a network switch was implemented to resolve buffering issues experienced with a smart TV app. The original setup included a mesh node with only two Ethernet ports, limiting the number of wired connections available for devices such as a PS5 and a DVR.
By introducing an unmanaged network switch, multiple devices can now connect seamlessly to the network. This device operates by taking an incoming Ethernet signal and distributing it through additional ports, allowing devices to function as if directly linked to the router. For those requiring more control, managed switches are available, but they may exceed basic needs.
The solution involved connecting the mesh node to the network switch, which then provided the necessary Ethernet ports for both the smart TV and DVR. Additionally, a StarTech Cat-6 cable was utilized, capable of achieving data transfer speeds up to 10Gbps, ensuring robust connectivity for streaming applications.
