The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a recall for the Hot + Cool Heating and Cooling Fans produced by Merkury Innovations following reports of fire incidents. Two instances of the fans igniting have been documented, alongside one case involving smoke damage to property, although no injuries have been reported. The affected model, identified as MI-DHC02, is a bladeless fan.
These fans were available for purchase nationwide at retailers such as TJMaxx, Marshalls, and Sierra from October 2024 to October 2025, with a retail price of approximately $30. Manufactured in China, the fans are now under scrutiny, prompting consumers to cease usage immediately and unplug the devices.
For those who have bought the fans, instructions for refunds are available on the company's website. Consumers are required to mark the fan with their initials and today’s date, photograph the fan and its severed power cord, and complete a registration form online. Merkury Innovations indicates that some customers may need to return their fans, while others will receive disposal instructions.
