A recent examination of the latest version of the Tesla App (v4.52.0) has unveiled references to a new feature named Harmony Wallet Key Cards, indicating a potential shift towards supporting Apple Wallet. This feature seems to be primarily aimed at the Chinese market, where Tesla often tests new capabilities first, suggesting future support for both Apple and Android wallets may be on the horizon.
The code suggests that this integration would enable users with devices running on Huawei’s HarmonyOS to utilize their Tesla keycard through the Huawei Wallet. This functionality would work as a “native” car key, allowing phones to function as secure keycards through NFC or Bluetooth without needing the Tesla app active. Enhanced features like Tap-to-Unlock would also be included, potentially allowing use even when the phone is powered off.
This development comes at a time when Tesla's competitors are advancing their own digital key technologies. Rivian recently launched its 2025 Holiday Update, introducing native support for Apple Wallet and Google Wallet, which offers several advantages, including operation after a device's battery has died and secure sharing options.
