T-Mobile is set to begin testing its new Live Translation call feature in spring, aiming to facilitate communication across language barriers for its customers. This innovative service will utilize AI technology at the network level, allowing users with basic phones to converse with speakers of over 50 languages without needing a smartphone or app.
Currently, registration for the beta program is available to subscribers of any post-paid T-Mobile plan, including Essentials, Experience More, Experience Beyond, and Better Value plans. T-Mobile's president of technology, John Saw, highlighted that the company processes approximately 6 billion international calls annually, with 40% of callers traveling abroad.
To activate the live translation feature, users simply dial *87* during a call. Only one party needs to be a T-Mobile subscriber, and the service will function even while roaming. The AI agent automatically detects spoken languages and translates without prior setup or voice training, ensuring seamless communication.
