A new gadget aimed at thwarting gift peekers has emerged, featuring an ESP32 and wiring hidden inside a seemingly innocuous gift box. When the lid is lifted, an alarm triggers, capturing a 10-second video and sending an alert alongside the footage to the gift-giver's phone.
Known as the Present Peeker Trap, this inventive project was shared by Makerinator on Hackaday.io. The device is designed to catch those who sneak a glance at their presents, providing undeniable proof of their mischief.
Upon detecting the box being opened, the gadget emits a buzzer sound and activates a camera, which records the event. The gift then delivers a message stating, "You peeked!" to further shame the intruder. This clever creation serves as a humorous deterrent, ensuring that would-be peekers face the consequences of their actions.
While the holiday season may be over, the concept could inspire future projects for next year, encouraging creative uses for leftover Christmas funds and sparking ideas for less mischievous holiday-themed tech.
