The inaugural self-driving shuttle route in Punggol is slated to be accessible to the public within two to three months, significantly earlier than the anticipated launch in the second quarter of 2026. This new service will span a distance of 10 kilometers, linking Matilda Court and Punggol Clover to the Oasis Terraces polyclinic via Punggol Plaza, with an estimated travel time of 35 minutes for each round trip.
Operated by Grab in partnership with WeRide, a company based in Guangzhou, the shuttles will feature vehicles designed to accommodate five and eight passengers, characterized by their distinctive purple color and amber roof beacons. Sun Xueling, the Senior Minister of State for Transport, highlighted that the first route has successfully undergone mapping and familiarization, achieving over 10,000 kilometers of safe travel without incidents.
Beginning this month, the Ministry of Transport plans to invite various stakeholders, including grassroots leaders, for trial rides to gather feedback aimed at enhancing user experience. The Land Transport Authority noted that these community rides are crucial for refining the service before it transitions to commercial operations. Shuttle services will operate on weekdays from 9:30 AM to 5 PM, and commuters can track shuttle availability and schedules through the Grab app, with a safety operator present in each vehicle at all times.
