The Tembo, a newly launched drum machine by the startup Musical Beings, is designed to simplify music creation for users of all ages. Featuring a tactile sequencer that utilizes magnetic pucks for beat arrangement, the device offers an engaging way to learn sequencing and beatmaking without the steep learning curve commonly associated with digital audio workstations (DAWs).
Co-founder David Davidov emphasized the company's mission to make music creation accessible, stating that the Tembo allows users to engage with music from the very first touch. This drum machine boasts a five-channel, 16-step sequencer, adjustable knobs for swing, tempo, effects, and pattern length, making it suitable for both novices and experienced musicians.
Portability is enhanced by its battery-powered design and built-in speaker, while the integrated sampler and microphone enable users to capture musical ideas easily. With a Kickstarter campaign already exceeding its initial funding goal, the Tembo is priced between $360 and $450, although potential backers should be aware that Kickstarter projects carry inherent risks regarding fulfillment.
