The Las Vegas police department has introduced a fleet of 10 Tesla Cybertrucks, marking a significant addition to their tactical vehicles. The rollout occurred last month, with the trucks featuring a distinctive black-and-white vinyl wrap, sirens, and warning lights, setting them apart from traditional police vehicles.
Anonymous donors provided the fleet, which first garnered attention in February when Sheriff Kevin McMahill shared renderings on social media, expressing excitement about the vehicles. The donation was confirmed to be from Ben Horowitz, co-founder of the venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz, and his wife Felicia, shortly after the announcement.
McMahill highlighted the significance of the Cybertrucks, stating they symbolize innovation in policing. This initiative positions Las Vegas as the first U.S. city to utilize such advanced vehicles for law enforcement purposes. The decision to acquire the fleet was in the works since December 2024, as noted in emails from police officials discussing the potential impact of these vehicles on modern policing.
