This weekend, the world of motorsport and technology collide as the Miami Grand Prix is set to air on Apple TV this Sunday. The event coincides with a special collaboration between Porsche and Apple featuring a retro race car design, which will be showcased at the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship at Laguna Seca in California on May 3.
The two manufacturers have recreated the iconic livery of the Porsche 935 K3, which was first seen in 1980. This design will appear on two Porsche 963 race cars during the IMSA event, celebrating significant milestones: the 75th anniversary of Porsche Motorsport and the 50th anniversary of Apple. Oliver Schusser, Apple's Vice President of Music, Sports, and Beats, emphasized the long-standing relationship between the two companies, highlighting their shared history since the Apple logo first adorned a Porsche race car.
In a personal note, incoming Apple CEO John Ternus has a history of driving Porsche race cars at Laguna Seca, further intertwining the connection between the tech giant and the automotive brand. The special wrap will be a notable feature of this weekend's races, marking a continuation of their innovative partnership.
