Apple is reportedly advancing its camera technology for the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max models. A well-known leaker, "Digital Chat Station," shared insights on the company's testing of a new main camera featuring a variable aperture. This innovation allows the camera to adjust light intake according to environmental conditions, enhancing performance in both bright and dark settings.
Previously, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo indicated in December 2024 that the new camera technology would be incorporated into these models. In addition, a recent report highlighted Apple's efforts to finalize component discussions with suppliers, signaling a commitment to introducing this feature.
In addition to the main camera, the leaker mentioned that Apple is also evaluating a telephoto camera with a larger aperture than the current ƒ/2.8 found in the iPhone 17 Pro models. This enhancement aims to improve light gathering and overall image quality. Other anticipated features for the iPhone 18 Pro include a potential teleconverter for better zoom capability and a 24-megapixel front camera. The launch of these models is expected in the near future.
