Apple's upcoming iPhone 18 is reportedly set to feature notable downgrades in both display and chip specifications. This decision appears to be a strategic move to reduce costs while maintaining the same retail price as its predecessor, the iPhone 17.
Leaker Fixed Focus Digital has indicated that the new model will have a lower-quality display, potentially losing features such as ProMotion and peak brightness, which were significant enhancements in the previous generation. Additionally, the A19 chip in the iPhone 18 may see a reduction in GPU cores from five to four, aligning it closer to the iPhone 18e.
Engineering Validation Testing (EVT) for both the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e is scheduled for June. The leaker emphasized that these changes have been confirmed, highlighting Apple's ongoing cost-control strategies aimed at making the standard model comparable to the more affordable variant.
