The iPhone 17 has emerged as the leading smartphone globally, capturing a 6% share of overall sales in the first quarter of 2026. This marks a significant shift from the previous quarter, where the iPhone 17 Pro Max held a mere 5% of global sales, as reported by Counterpoint Research.
Rankings from Counterpoint indicate that the iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPhone 17 Pro follow closely behind the iPhone 17 in sales. The report highlighted that the top three smartphones are significantly ahead of the competition. The Samsung Galaxy A07 4G and Galaxy A17 5G also made the top five, followed by the iPhone 16 and other Samsung models.
Counterpoint noted that the top ten smartphones accounted for 25% of global unit sales, the highest concentration for a first quarter. The iPhone 17's success is attributed to improvements in storage, camera features, and display technology, contributing to its year-over-year growth in key markets like China, the US, and South Korea.
