Apple is set to introduce enhanced photo editing capabilities through its upcoming updates to the Photos app in iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27. The new features, collectively referred to as Apple Intelligence, aim to improve image quality and editing precision. Users can expect tools such as Extend, Enhance, and Reframe, which will allow for more versatile photo manipulation.
Extend will enable users to add content to the edges of images, while Enhance uses AI to optimize color and lighting automatically. Reframe will provide the ability to adjust the perspective of spatial photos after they have been captured. Despite these advancements, Apple is reportedly facing challenges in perfecting the functionality of these tools, potentially leading to delays or limitations in their rollout.
Additionally, the existing Clean Up feature, which helps remove unwanted elements from images, continues to show performance issues, especially in comparison to similar tools from competitors like Samsung and Google. The official preview for iOS 27 is scheduled for June 8, 2026, during the WWDC 2026 keynote.
