Innovega has launched its Gen One smart glasses, designed specifically for individuals with low vision, capturing images with an onboard camera and displaying enhanced visuals on transparent screens. This innovative product aims to assist approximately 300 million people globally who struggle with significant vision loss.
Weighing under 70 grams, the glasses resemble typical eyewear, allowing users to look through clear lenses when the displays are inactive. Users can activate the enhanced view through a tap or voice command, with the system processing data through a connected smartphone. The software adapts the visuals based on the user's specific vision issues, modifying aspects such as brightness and contrast.
CEO Steve Willey emphasized the goal of the product to greatly improve the quality of life and independence for millions affected by visual impairments. Innovega, founded in the Seattle area, pivoted from its original focus on augmented-reality contact lenses after assessing market trends and the industry's direction.
