The redesigned document scanner for Google Drive on Android is now being rolled out, enhancing the user experience with multiple powerful features. After several months of beta testing, users can switch back to the previous scanner if desired. This new tool allows for Smart Batch Scanning, enabling the simultaneous scanning of multiple pages, which mimics a video recording rather than capturing single images.
Key features include Auto-Best Frame, which automatically replaces blurry scans with the best quality images, and Duplicate Detection, which prevents previously captured pages from being rescanned. The interface has been updated with a new viewfinder and a preview function for immediate feedback on scans.
To ensure optimal performance, the scanner requires Android devices with a minimum of 8 GB of RAM and utilizes on-device processing for quick, offline, and private operations. This update not only improves scanning efficiency but also integrates with other applications like Files by Google.
