The base model of the Mac mini, featuring the M4 chip, is currently unavailable for purchase on the Apple Online Store. This configuration includes 256GB of storage and 16GB of RAM. In contrast, models with upgraded storage options and those equipped with the M4 Pro chip remain available, along with configurations having 24GB of RAM. However, some versions that utilize 32GB of RAM or more are out of stock.
This shortage might reflect a surge in demand as consumers increasingly seek devices for running AI models locally. Compounding the situation, Apple is facing RAM shortages due to a rise in global memory demand, which has driven up prices. Previously, these shortages impacted the availability of higher-tier Mac mini and Mac Studio models, leading to the complete removal of the 512GB Mac Studio from the online store earlier this year.
Looking ahead, Apple is reportedly developing the M5 and M5 Pro versions of the Mac mini for release in 2026. However, the launch may be delayed due to ongoing RAM supply challenges.
