Google's latest smartphone series has sparked user feedback regarding its design, particularly the ongoing use of a glossy glass back on the base model. The Pixel 10, which has been utilized as a secondary device alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 7, highlights the contrast between its finish and that of the higher-end Pro model, which features a frosted glass back.
Since the Pixel series was revamped in 2021, Google has differentiated its flagship phones into two tiers. The Pro version includes enhanced features such as upgraded cameras and additional memory, while maintaining the same core design and chipset as the standard model. The Pixel 8 series further established this separation with distinct materials for each model.
Users have reported challenges with the glossy finish, including difficulties with Qi2 accessory compatibility, leading to devices slipping on chargers. To address this, one user opted for a matte skin from XtremeSkins during Black Friday, which significantly improved the phone's usability and feel. Despite understanding the visual distinction that Google aims for, there is a growing call for the removal of glossy backs in future iterations.
