In a recent development, Google TV is introducing new tabs labeled “Free” and “Shop” on its homescreen, aiming to enhance user experience. This update comes after the platform simplified its layout by removing the “Library” and “Watchlist” tabs, which have since been relocated under a profile menu.
The “Free” tab highlights content accessible without payment, featuring titles from streaming services like Tubi, while the “Shop” tab allows users to purchase movies directly from Google Play. This shift is notable, as Google has previously downplayed the emphasis on movie purchases in recent years.
Currently, these tabs are in a testing phase and are not widely available across devices, including popular models from TCL and Hisense. Last year, a similar feature was rolled out for Android TV, indicating a gradual expansion of these functionalities.
