The new “Disco” icon pack is now being introduced on Google Pixel phones, featuring an eye-catching disco ball effect against a black backdrop. This update was confirmed by Sameer Samat, the Android Ecosystem President at Google, marking the latest addition to the phone's customization options.
The concept originated from a discussion on Twitter/X that highlighted the idea of “discomorphism” in various applications, including YouTube and Claude. This rollout follows previous icon styles like “Scribbles,” “Cookies,” “Stardust,” “Easel,” and “Treasure,” all of which utilize AI-generated designs and allow for color palette customization.
Despite this fresh aesthetic, the new pack comes after the removal of a prior theme pack based on Spongebob, indicating a shift in Google Pixel's personalization offerings. Users now have the opportunity to enhance their home screens with the “Disco” pack, though some critiques suggest that AI icons may not fully satisfy those seeking deeper customization.
