The latest beta version of the Google app, identified as 17.4, has revealed features related to a new capability named “Get tasks done with Gemini.” This functionality, codenamed bonobo, aims to facilitate task management through screen automation across select applications on Android devices.
Developed as part of Android 16 QPR3, the automation feature allows Gemini to assist users with tasks such as ordering goods or booking transportation. However, Google emphasizes the need for user supervision, stating that “Gemini can make mistakes” and users hold responsibility for its actions. Users can interrupt the automated process at any moment to take manual control.
On the privacy front, Google has stated that if “Keep Activity” is activated, any interactions Gemini has with applications will be monitored by trained reviewers to enhance service quality. Users are advised against sharing sensitive information, such as login credentials or payment details, during these interactions.
Additionally, the beta includes references to a feature called “Likeness,” codenamed wasabi, which relates to the usage of 3D avatars in Google Meet calls. This feature may allow for user prompts regarding avatar interaction.
