Google has made significant strides in enhancing the performance of Gemini for Home, particularly in reducing response times for smart home commands. Anish Kattukaran, the Chief Product Officer for Gemini at Google, shared that the latest update decreases latency by approximately 30–40%, making tasks like "turn off the lights" quicker and more efficient.
This update comes after a series of improvements this month aimed at refining user interactions with smart devices. The changes have also resulted in a notable drop in error rates, contributing to a more seamless experience when using voice commands. The rollout of this major update has already been completed, with users in the US and Canada able to notice the enhancements across "hundreds" of common commands.
Currently, access to Gemini for Home is restricted to an Early Access program, where participation is by invitation only. Despite the limitations, Google has been proactive in addressing issues and implementing fixes to enhance the overall functionality of the system.
