Front-load washing machines have been identified as more cost-effective long-term investments compared to their top-load counterparts, with an average payback period of 6.5 years. This finding emerges from a comprehensive analysis of over 15,000 data points compiled by CNET, highlighting the potential for significant savings through energy efficiency.
The study shows that front-load washers typically last around 12.6 years, contributing to their better long-term financial viability. The most efficient model in the analysis, the Electrolux ELFW7738A, serves as the baseline for comparison against other models, including those that did not make the final list.
Data for the research was gathered in June 2025, including Energy Star ratings and retail prices, which were accurate as of January. The analysis also evaluated various metrics such as water usage and electricity costs across different models, providing a detailed overview of their operational efficiencies.
