Despite the launch of the updated Vision Pro with the M5 chip in October 2025, Apple is reportedly ceasing development of the device due to continued low sales. The Vision Pro, initially released with significant expectations, has sold only around 600,000 units since its debut, and has faced an unusually high return rate compared to other modern products from the company.
The M5 upgrade included enhancements such as a 120Hz refresh rate and improved battery life, yet the $3,499 price tag and the device's weight of over 1.3 pounds have deterred consumers. Following these disappointing results, the team behind the Vision Pro has been reassigned to other projects, with some members now contributing to the Siri team under the leadership of Mike Rockwell.
While rumors about a potential lighter and less expensive model known as the Vision Air circulated, development on that front was halted last year. Currently, Apple is shifting its focus toward creating smart glasses that will feature augmented reality, although these will not incorporate the technology from the Vision Pro due to power constraints.
