Aqara has introduced the U400 smart lock, which is now available for $269.99. This innovative deadbolt is the first to utilize Apple’s Home Key feature for hands-free unlocking, leveraging the U1 ultra-wideband (UWB) chip found in many iPhones and Apple Watches. During testing, the U400 demonstrated consistent performance, unlocking the door automatically as the user approached, even when carrying items or wearing gloves.
This technology marks a departure from traditional locking systems, which often rely on Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or geofencing and require the user to have an app running. Unlike previous models from companies like Yale and August that experienced reliability issues, the U400 worked without delay throughout the testing period, with only a minor hiccup when the phone was obscured.
The introduction of the U400 at CES this week aims to enhance the smart home experience by streamlining entry without the need for physical interaction with the lock. This advancement could significantly change how users interact with their home security systems.
