The latest update to Apple TV, tvOS 26.4, introduces a feature called “Continuous Audio Connection”, aimed at enhancing audio playback. This new setting allows for a Dolby MAT connection, which is designed to eliminate playback glitches across various formats, particularly for users experiencing issues with Sonos speakers and AV receivers.
Users have reported problems like popping noises and low volume with 5.1-channel content. Feedback on the Sonos subreddit suggests that enabling the Continuous Audio Connection resolves these issues. One user noted that their 5.1 multichannel PCM content now matches the quality of Atmos audio, which was a significant improvement over previous solutions that required disabling eARC.
However, some Sonos users have also indicated that this new setting may cause problems with stereo content, potentially introducing new audio issues. Currently, tvOS 26.4 is available for both developer and public beta users, with expectations for further refinement during the beta testing phase.
