Android 17 will introduce a new feature called “Continue On,” allowing users to transition tasks between devices seamlessly. This capability was announced during the Google I/O 2026 event and is designed to enhance the Android ecosystem by enabling users to start an app on one device and continue using it on another without interruption.
The feature will initially work between Android phones and tablets, showing activities from one device on another if they are connected to the same accounts. For example, users can open a document in Google Docs on their tablet after starting it on their phone, or continue reading an email in Gmail that switches to Chrome on a tablet. The functionality is reminiscent of Apple’s Handoff feature introduced in 2014.
Although Continue On will be available in the upcoming Android 17 RC1, there is potential for future updates that could expand its capabilities. The last beta version was released nearly a month ago, and it is not uncommon for additional updates to follow.
