American Airlines is set to enhance the travel experience by providing free, high-speed satellite Wi-Fi on all its flights, thanks to a partnership with AT&T. This initiative will allow passengers to connect without cost, provided they enroll in the airline's complimentary rewards program, AAdvantage. To utilize the service, travelers must log into the aainflight.com portal with their AAdvantage credentials and select the "Free Wi-Fi" option.
The rollout of this service is anticipated to begin later this month, with a phased implementation expected to ensure nearly every flight is equipped with the service by early spring. Currently, American Airlines boasts over 900 mainline aircraft featuring high-speed satellite connectivity, surpassing any other airline in the world in terms of satellite Wi-Fi-equipped planes.
This upgrade marks a significant improvement from American's previous air-to-ground Wi-Fi system, which was known for being slow and unreliable. Previously, passengers faced costs of up to $10 per flight or could subscribe to a monthly plan for $49.95 per device, with annual subscriptions costing $599.
