Puffpaw has launched a cannabis vape pen named Gudtrip in California, allowing users to earn bitcoin while consuming cannabis. Each vape pen contains a Bitcoin value of $2-3, which can be accessed through a mobile app by scanning a QR code or using NFC technology. The app not only facilitates the bitcoin rewards but also tracks the usage of the pen, similar to fitness applications.
Critics have noted concerns about Gudtrip's approach to cannabis consumption, accusing the company of gamifying the experience. Despite this, Puffpaw has clarified that there is no direct reward tied to using the vape pen, having modified previous claims that suggested users earn cryptocurrency with every puff. Instead, daily engagement with the app enables users to accumulate non-monetary virtual points, which are strictly for internal tracking and hold no cash value.
By opting for bitcoin rather than creating a proprietary token, Gudtrip aims to avoid pitfalls associated with previous crypto reward schemes that faced scrutiny for being unsustainable. The product is currently only available in California, where recreational cannabis use is legalized.
