The UK Parliamentary Standards Commissioner has initiated an inquiry into Nigel Farage, leader of the Reform UK party, regarding a significant undeclared donation. This investigation centers on a £5 million (approximately $6.7 million) gift from crypto billionaire Christopher Harborne, which Farage received prior to his election as a Member of Parliament in 2024.
Critics assert that Farage should have registered this payment after taking office, despite his claim of no obligation to declare the donation. The matter has attracted attention from the Conservative Party, which has requested the parliamentary standards watchdog to look into the situation and has also alerted the Electoral Commission, which is contemplating a formal investigation.
This probe occurs amidst heightened scrutiny over Farage’s financial connections with crypto-related entities, as UK lawmakers and regulators increasingly focus on the implications of digital asset financing in politics. Reform UK, which first began accepting cryptocurrency donations in 2025, reported receiving a record $12 million donation in the preceding quarter and a subsequent $4 million from Harborne.
