Chun Wang, a prominent cryptocurrency entrepreneur, has acquired a ticket for SpaceX's inaugural manned mission to Mars. This mission, which will last two years, aims to explore beyond the Moon, conduct a flyby of Mars, and return to Earth. Wang, who also led a SpaceX flight over Earth's poles, is set to participate in a weeklong commercial spaceflight around the Moon prior to the Mars journey.
Wang, the Maltese founder of the Bitcoin mining pool F2Pool, expressed his desire to ensure that Mars exploration remains a priority, stating that he hopes his investment will motivate SpaceX to focus on Mars expeditions. He emphasized the importance of making Mars accessible to humanity, rather than leaving it to future generations.
SpaceX plans to initiate Starship cargo flights to Mars for various missions by 2028. The ultimate vision includes the establishment of a self-sustaining city on the planet, estimated to require over 1 million people and substantial cargo resources. Wang is joined in this venture by a growing list of tech entrepreneurs participating in space exploration.
