A new protocol from Singapore-based Travala enables artificial intelligence agents to search and book hotels using USDC on the Base blockchain, providing a significant advancement in travel bookings. The Travala Travel MCP is now operational via Claude Desktop, allowing external developers to integrate the system into their travel services.
This development utilizes the Model Context Protocol, which connects Travala’s hotel inventory to AI applications. Payments are facilitated through Coinbase’s x402 protocol, offering gasless transactions with costs around $0.01 per booking and nearly instantaneous settlements. Despite the automation of the booking process, travelers must still manually authorize final payments, ensuring human oversight over transactions.
The introduction of this technology aligns with broader efforts in the crypto industry to enhance stablecoin functionality for automated commerce. Travala is also incentivizing developers with a 10% rebate on completed stays booked through its agents, further promoting the integration of AI in travel. CEO Juan Otero emphasized that this launch represents a pivotal moment in creating a more autonomous travel economy.
