Porsche is set to close its performance e-bike division, known as Porsche eBike Performance GmbH, along with additional subsidiaries, impacting approximately 350 employees. This decision follows nearly four years of operation since the launch of the e-bike unit in August 2022, which aimed to produce high-performance drive systems.
The closure will affect factories located in Ottobrunn, Germany, and Zagreb, Croatia. In recent years, Porsche eBike Performance introduced various models, including the Porsche eBike Sport and the Porsche eBike Cross, with the eBike Sport reaching its fifth generation and priced at $10,920.
Porsche's CEO, Michael Leiters, indicated that the company is also discontinuing operations at Cellforce Group GmbH, its battery cell subsidiary, and Cetitic GmbH, a software company linked to Porsche and The Volkswagen Group. This strategy reflects a shift to concentrate on its primary automotive business.
Despite efforts to electrify its vehicle lineup, Porsche has divested from its minority stake in Bugatti Rimac and sold its smaller interest in The Rimac Group, having previously invested heavily in the luxury electric supercar manufacturer.
