Redmond Police Chief Darrell Lowe is at the forefront of integrating technology into law enforcement, aiming to enhance public safety within the city known for its Microsoft headquarters. With a background spanning 30 years in law enforcement, Lowe's leadership has focused on transforming the police department into a model agency through the adoption of innovative tools.
Recently, he highlighted the use of an AI-powered investigative platform from Longeye, which quickly analyzes extensive data, including surveillance footage and phone records. This technology has proven effective, assisting investigators in a cold case by processing 60 hours of calls in just minutes. Despite this advancement, Lowe emphasizes that technology should supplement rather than replace traditional investigative methods.
In addition to AI, the department has embraced various tech solutions over the years, including adhesive GPS trackers and handheld narcotics analyzers capable of identifying over 530 controlled substances. Particularly, Lowe champions the use of drones for rapid response, likening their significance to the transition from traditional communication methods to handheld radios.
