NordVPN has announced enhancements to its VPN app, integrating antivirus features directly within the platform. This update, revealed on Wednesday, aims to address evolving online threats that extend beyond traditional malware, including phishing scams and identity theft. Users can now find all protection tools, such as scam and phishing defenses, within a single application rather than as separate services.
According to product director Domininkas Virbickas, the redesigned app focuses on three key areas: Connect, Protect, and Monitor. This approach reflects the shift in online security needs, as users face increasing risks from deceptive tactics rather than just malicious files. The new antivirus employs a dual-layer detection system, utilizing real-time checks against threat intelligence and machine learning for early threat identification.
Furthermore, Marijus Briedis, the company's CTO, emphasized the necessity for modern digital security to adapt to the current landscape of threats. The goal of these updates is to prevent users from falling victim to scams before they encounter the need for cleanup after exposure.
