A report indicates that Apple is examining security vulnerabilities in macOS, which were uncovered using techniques associated with Anthropic's Mythos AI. Researchers from Calif, a security firm based in Palo Alto, developed a method to exploit two bugs, enabling unauthorized access to normally secure areas of the Mac's memory.
This privilege escalation exploit, identified during tests of an early version of Mythos in April, raises significant concerns about potential hacker control over affected devices. Apple is currently evaluating the 55-page report submitted by Calif, as a company spokesperson emphasized the importance of security and their commitment to addressing potential vulnerabilities.
Calif's CEO, Thai Dong, noted that while Mythos played a role, the attack required the expertise of their cybersecurity team. The company plans to share details of their findings once Apple resolves the issues. Dong expressed optimism that the vulnerabilities could be patched swiftly by Apple.
