The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has issued a significant alert regarding the rise of cyber threats linked to advancements in artificial intelligence. The advisory, titled “Defending Against Frontier AI Driven Cyber Risks,” stresses the enhanced capabilities of modern AI systems that enable cybercriminals to execute attacks with greater efficiency and less reliance on human input.
As part of the warning, CERT-In highlighted the increasing risk to micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), which often lack sufficient cybersecurity measures. It noted that the new AI tools can autonomously detect software vulnerabilities, conduct thorough analyses of source code, and coordinate complex cyberattacks across multiple platforms.
The agency urged affected organizations to strengthen their cybersecurity frameworks by adopting advanced threat detection, ensuring consistent network monitoring, and maintaining comprehensive logs for forensic purposes. CERT-In also emphasized the need for timely software updates and adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate potential breaches in an evolving threat landscape.
