The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has highlighted a pressing concern regarding the cybersecurity landscape, particularly for the nation’s Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). The advisory reveals that advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technologies are now enabling cybercriminals to execute precise attacks with unprecedented efficiency, thereby increasing risks for smaller businesses that typically lack robust cybersecurity measures.
CERT-In notes that traditional methods of breaching secure networks required extensive expertise and manual effort. However, modern AI systems can swiftly analyze large amounts of source code, identifying vulnerabilities in seconds. This capability allows attackers to exploit vulnerabilities across multiple platforms, which can lead to comprehensive breaches of entire networks.
The advisory underscores the potential for catastrophic data breaches and ransomware incidents if immediate action is not taken. CERT-In recommends that MSMEs adopt specific defensive strategies, including the implementation of threat detection tools and continuous network monitoring, to bolster their defenses against emerging automated threats.
