Concerns over potential security issues arose among Instagram users after many reported receiving unexpected password reset notifications. This prompted the social media platform to clarify the situation in a statement released on Saturday, January 10.
Instagram reassured users that there was no data breach, despite widespread speculation. The company explained that an external party had exploited a vulnerability, allowing them to request password reset emails for some accounts. However, Instagram emphasized that user accounts remain secure and advised individuals to disregard the reset emails.
To enhance account security, Instagram also encouraged users to enable two-factor authentication. Additionally, the platform has been gradually introducing a new “timer” symbol on Instagram Stories, which users may start to notice in their app.
