In a significant data breach, over 800,000 residents of Texas are affected as their personal information was leaked from Carnival Corporation. The incident, which has potentially compromised the data of 6 million individuals, stemmed from a targeted attack that exploited a single employee's trust rather than a widespread cyber intrusion.
Among the Texans impacted, many are customers who frequently travel through ports in the Gulf of America, including Galveston. The exposed data includes sensitive information such as drivers' license numbers, passport details, names, addresses, contact numbers, email addresses, and dates of birth.
Carnival notified its customers on Wednesday about the breach that occurred on April 14th, offering credit monitoring and assistance from third-party security experts to affected individuals. Additionally, the company recently announced plans for a new cruise ship, the Tropicale, which is set to homeport in Galveston starting in 2028.
