Apple has introduced a new test update for users enrolled in the iOS 26.3 beta program. Titled ‘iOS 26.3 (a)’, this update is designed to evaluate the newly established Background Security Improvements system, which has been integrated into all iPhones since the release of iOS 26.1.
Unlike standard updates, this test can be accessed through the Privacy & Security section in Settings, rather than the typical Software Update screen. It is important to note that this update does not include any security fixes and is intended solely for testing.
Users have the option to uninstall the update directly from the same settings menu. If they choose to do so, their iPhone will restart, effectively removing the test security update. This move by Apple may indicate future deployment plans for Background Security Improvements to a broader user base.
