Currently, while Apple's Find My and Stolen Device Protection provide some security, they do not prevent immediate theft when the phone is unlocked.
The upcoming feature, inspired by Android's Theft Detection Lock, is said to utilize various signals, including data from the accelerometer, to determine if an iPhone has been snatched. If such a situation is detected, the device will automatically lock to prevent unauthorized access. This function is designed to respond to rapid movements that indicate theft, similar to how Android's system operates.
In addition to motion detection, Apple may incorporate distance data from connected devices like the Apple Watch to enhance functionality. The report suggests that these advancements will align with the existing protections already in place for stolen devices, ensuring a comprehensive approach to security.
