Apple has introduced a new update feature called Background Security Improvements, aimed at enhancing security protections for its software. This feature is currently available for developers and public beta testers using iOS 26.3, iPadOS 26.3, and macOS Tahoe 26.3. Users can install the update via the Privacy and Security section of the Settings app.
The Background Security Improvements provide additional safeguards for Safari, WebKit, and various system libraries, bridging the gap between standard software updates. If users choose not to manually install these improvements, they will still receive them during their regular software updates.
This initiative replaces Apple's previous Rapid Security Response update feature, which was infrequently utilized and eventually discontinued. Apple cautions that while the new updates aim to bolster security, they may occasionally lead to "rare instances of compatibility issues," which could require temporary removal and adjustment in future updates.
